FC Augsburg has signed Tottenham Hotspur’s young midfielder Daniel Drinkwater on a six-month loan deal, with the option to purchase him at the end of the season.
Drinkwater, who is currently aged 21 and making his professional debut for Spurs, has impressed in his limited time with the club so far. He made one appearance for Spurs in their Europa League match against AC Milan in November, playing as a central midfielder.
The loan deal will see Drinkwater wear the number 8 shirt for Augsburg during his stay at the club. The club have already confirmed that they will pay Tottenham £550,000 in transfer fees for the player, which includes any wages he earns during his stay at Augsburg.
Augsburg manager Michael Laudrup has praised Drinkwater’s ability to adapt quickly to new environments and said that he believes the player could make a significant impact for the club this season.
Tottenham Hotspur have not yet commented on the loan deal, but it is expected that the club will be looking to strengthen their midfield options ahead of next season. With Drinkwater now under contract for the remainder of the current campaign, Spurs may consider selling him at some point during the summer window.
